i'm a gryffindor. surprise surprise ^^;;; every single time i've done any sort of sorting like this, i've been placed in gryffindor-- though i think i was ravenclaw once-- but gryffindor still wins most of the time. and why wouldn't it, it's the best house ^.^ [info]dutchie_1991 calculated that from the actors' ages she'd probably be in ginny's class... i tried the same and found something funny: if i go by the actors' ages, i'd be about five years ahead of them. if i go by the actual ages of the characters, i'd be exactly five years below them. how curious ^^

okay, so i finally finished reading DH last night and i just have to say... best bloody book ever. i LOVED it, no question about it. i thought it was the perfect way to wrap up the series. and if i thought HBP was the "OMG" book, then DH was definitely my "xD" book, because i couldn't stop grinning all through it.

and well, i always write up a review, right? well, this time i decided, for the sake of science, to do it a bit differently. i wanted to be able to see my train of thought as i went through the book, and kind of analyze how i got to my conclusions, so i decided to write it up chapter by chapter. so i read one chapter, then wrote up my comments and reactions to it, then moved on to the next chapter, and so on and so forth. i quite liked it that way, it made me feel a bit less dizzy at the end of the book ^^;;;

i won't post it here because i think it's too long for LJ, but i've uploaded it to my server in case anyone wants to read it. warning, though: it IS hellishly long. but give it a try-- after you get past my "i knew its" and "i should've knowns" and my ron rants, you might even have a laugh at all the stuff i see/hear (read), my comparing voldemort to legally blonde and my speculations about neville's virginity ^^;;; all shippers welcome! i know i have my bias, but i did say i liked the book, right? all shipping comments are said in good fun, i promise. seriously, though, please read it. there are a bunch of questions i couldn't understand in there, maybe you can help me figure it out? and if you read it, please pass the link to this post over to your friends and such-- i'm really interested in knowing if i'm the only crazy one that goes through this absolutely hyper and warped deductive process.

HP&DH through cali's eyes: a review
start time: sat, 2 am; end time: mon, 5 am
(i don't believe i broke my record...)

...read it? pretty please? do it for the sake of science... xD

now that i'm done with the last book, i can properly make up my mind about a ranking for them:

1. prisoner of azkaban: because of the crazy amount of emotional background there was. the marauders were introduced. all the characters gained more depth.

deathly hallows: this book had everything. the story was not only sound, but wholly entertaining. the characters were all at their best. ron absolutely shone through. the ending was solid, and it was the LAST. what's there not to like?

2. philosopher's stone: this one will always have a special place in my heart because it was the first. it shone with innocence, with the trio all cute and bright-eyed and ready to fight what they didn't understand. the troll scene, the chess scene... the perfect beginning to all the craze.

order of the phoenix: there were insane amounts of character development in this book. harry finally let his feelings out. we finally learned that it would come down to him and voldemort. we got to see the marauders when they were young. so many new, interesting characters that won over our hearts. and of course, it was THE BOOK OF RON.

3. half-blood prince: i liked that in this one we actually got all the information we'd been clamoring for since the beginning of the series. we knew voldemort's plan. and it was so action-packed, too.

4. goblet of fire: feeling, feeling, feeling. this was what this book was all about. the whole idea about the tournament was also very attractive, especially the idea that the goblet chose harry even if there were only supposed to be three champions. it was the first time that fate had really forced itself on harry. and of course, all the wonderful new characters, and our first real tragic death...

5. chamber of secrets: this is the only book in the series i might even say i didn't like. i just think that, as important as that particular storyline was to later events, when i read it first it felt like it was... completely detached. everything was happening to harry, but it was not about harry. i can't explain it, really, but it didn't grab me as the others did.

and after that is done, it's my job to take a look at my HP fanfics and figure out how they stand in the light of the most recent canon. and you know what? well, orbe's been out since OotP came out. somnium (english and spanish) doesn't hold up, but that one's basically done for anyway. ultima prueba... am i ever going to go back to this one? i have to read "higher learning" again, but i know it doesn't work with the new canon anyway. tritatos can only get better with each new book. and quite surprisingly, i believe all's right can still work out, what with the gap before the epilogue... minus a few annoying details. i'm amazed, i didn't think that one would stand its ground. so yay! ^^

Buen review :)

YAY, fellow Gryffindor. LOL, that's fun, you would've been like...in your second-to-last year when I started school there. You could be head girl :P

I haven't read the book yet but as you might've read in the e-mail I send you, I was spoiled so I read your review it and though I rolled my eyes every time you mentioned Ron (lol, j/k) I did fairly agree with most of it. But what was this part about a HHr kiss?? o0

I can't believe they killed Hedwig. I mean, why the owl? (don't tell me, I'll find out in November, when the Dutch version comes out.) And Remus and Tonks! NO! I loved them! Ahh, not fair.

I was so surprised when I found out none of the trio had died. I had my money on Hermione, was prepared for Harry and hoping for Ron. But they all live. I guess I should be happy they didn't die. Yeah.

I am not going to like this book.
[info]girls_are_weird on July 27th, 2007 03:42 am (UTC)
haha i don't think i'm head girl material xD but it's a nice idea ^^ she killed hedwig because she knew people liked hedwig! i won't tell you how it happened, but it was basically the hardest death for me, if you ask me. hedwig's been with harry for the longest time, if you don't count hagrid-- and i think that's the idea: she didn't want to kill hagrid, so she killed hedwig. for all intents and purposes, the idea is the same. hit someone who's been there for harry all along. as for remus and tonks... i agree ;_; that was so out of the blue... =(

if you rolled your eyes every time i mentioned ron, your eyes must be hurting right now ^^;;; "ron" was practically the unspoken subtitle of my review, lol ^^ and do you really want me to explain you how the whole "hhr kiss" thing goes? it happens at a kind of crucial part of the book, i wouldn't want to spoil you further.

the trio lives, yes! ^_______^ it was a trio-fest, that book. and don't let preconceived notions tear down the experience for you, it really is a very good book, regardless of shipping or unexpected character deaths. it's really, really good, and thoroughly enjoyable. keep an open mind when you do read it.

(the dutch version comes out in november? wow, the spanish translation normally takes like a year or more... O_o not that i read it, i prefer the english version anyway...)
[info]dutchie_1991 on July 27th, 2007 09:54 am (UTC)
Yeah my eyes are pretty upset *rollseyes* ouch.

UHM...well if it's really important then don't tell me but they like actually kissed? Like a real kiss? Or was it some dream or hallucination or whatever?

Yeah Dutch version is November. I could buy the English one but I have 1 till 6 in Dutch so buying the last one in English would just be rediculous. Now I've read the spoilers I'm not so eager to read it anyway. I will, naturally, and I'll try to be open minded - even though the 6th book had me going 'ugh' every 5 pages or so - when I do.

Prisoner of Azkaban will always be my fave, book and movie. Book because it was awesome, movie because...well it was all HHr and it makes my shippy heart squee. After that probably comes 1, 4, 2, 5, 6. Now I'm just wondering where 7 comes in.
[info]girls_are_weird on July 27th, 2007 08:51 pm (UTC)
well, i'll tell you this much: it was a sort of hallucination, yeah. it still made me squee like crazy, though xD no real kissing between those two but there are some really squee-worthy moments at godric's hollow, so be on the lookout ^_^

i have the first four books in spanish. then i got sick of reading it like that because it's spanish from spain, and it was just so weird to picture them speaking like that ^^;;; not to mention that they change all the names and so when i go see the movie, i get all messed up. so i decided to start reading the english versions instead. but yeah, i understand what you mean-- i'll probably have to buy the first four in english eventually, so that they all match ^.^

HBP made me more dizzy than 'ugh,' because i did like it, it's just that the plot was so intense and information-filled. but the H/G moments did tend to make me gag. i guess that's just my natural reaction to it ^^;;; so i get what you're saying. i liked the book overall, i guess more in the sense that i kept thinking "OMG i finally know what's going on!"... i guess the lack of character development and OOC-ness wasn't much of a factor for me after all that we learned in that book. but it did have a fanfiction-ish feel to it at parts, i even admit that... hmmmm...

i do hope they keep the horcrux!h/hr kiss in the seventh movie. i would die for a moment of dan and emma kissing, you know how many icons i could make out of that? priceless moment.

That was meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! xoP
We'll LOVE THIS, it's ours!!! They have to keep it!!! THEY HAVE TOOOO!! YOU HEAR ME WARNER BROS??!!!!!!
HAAAVVVEEEEE TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

*stops crazy to keep reading*
[info]girls_are_weird on July 27th, 2007 03:44 am (UTC)
they sure have to! if they don't, ooohhhh i'm gonna be pissed... >.
[info]narami on July 25th, 2007 06:32 pm (UTC)
That was *two thumbs up*!!
I don't have HP fans to share this with so, I think Hermione was the awesome in this book. I mean, without her they would've died like *zap*. She had everything planned and I was so impressed with how straight forward she was when they had to you know, do stuff that could kill them ded. Also she was like the one doing most magic for the first part of the book, I was all like Harry? Ron? don't you know how to put up a tent dudes?!!
She's now been proven my favorite character, so I'm biased, but I guess you understand because you have Ron :o)
thanks for the review!

xoD

true, true! i was very impressed by hermione, as well! she was totally on top of things-- i mean, not only did she know where she wanted to go, and the reasons they should go there, or where they SHOULDN'T go and what they shouldn't DO, but she also took care of every single necessity they had! because let's face it, ron would have starved to death and harry would have lived on adrenaline only to drop at voldemort's feet without him even having to cast the killing curse. i was also pleasantly surprised that she DIDN'T freak out at harry's lack of a plan... like i said in the review, i was expecting ron to, and he did, but i was also expecting her to feel like they were in over their head, and let harry know as well. and maybe she felt that way, but she did her best to be supportive, and she stuck to her word and stuck to harry and that, for me, was huge. she's a cool character, hermione. of course, i have ron, as you said ^_^ but all three of them are just pure LUFF for me, and i was really proud of all of them in this book.

(sorry I couldn't reply properly, don't know what happened)

I loved your review. It made me laugh, it made me clap, it made me remember the book all over again, and I just read it yesterday. Muah!
